Overview

As more and more Microsoft accounts begin adding Microsoft 365 Copilot to their workplace technology stacks, it has become increasingly important for account teams to help their clients see clear, early value in their investment. Usage and adoption are always important indicators of account health, and that’s especially the case with M365 Copilot, given licenses are sold separately at an incremental cost.

Committed to empowering their clients to succeed with Microsoft 365 Copilot, Microsoft identified BrainStorm—a 2022 Microsoft US Partner of the Year award recipient—to collaboratively build a scalable adoption program. The program yielded a significant impact on both adoption rates and value perception from customers, ultimately driving significant license expansion within the 73 customer cohort.

The objective

The primary goal of this program was to ensure that clients with Microsoft 365 Copilot licensing could effectively adopt and leverage the tool to its fullest potential, maximizing its value to the customer. Microsoft funded customer access to BrainStorm for a cohort of accounts with below-average adoption rates with an eye towards finding the most efficient and effective path to adoption success.

The solution

BrainStorm—a software adoption platform purpose-built to facilitate measurable end-user behavior change—offers comprehensive, turnkey training campaigns that include courses, videos, emails, and events. The accounts enrolled in this program had access to two specific Microsoft 365 Copilot content packs within BrainStorm:

  1. Preflight for M365 Copilot: This content pack empowers employees to optimize their use of existing tools like OneDrive, Teams, and SharePoint, effectively preparing them for Copilot. By improving how they interact with these tools, which Copilot leverages for its outputs, users can maximize the overall value Copilot provides for their specific needs.
  2. M365 Copilot Starter: This content pack helps employees begin their journey with M365 Copilot, covering essential topics such as where to find the tool, how to use it effectively, how to craft better prompts, and how to best leverage its outputs for productivity. 

The results

The BrainStorm platform delivered the following results:

Sustained MAU increase: Among the 73 customers that used BrainStorm there was a 50% average increase in Monthly Active Users (MAU) at the 6-8 week mark.
License expansion: Accounts using BrainStorm added 56,557 new M365 Copilot licenses.

This feature allows customers to send pre-built email templates to their end users from a recognized sender within their organization, increasing the likelihood of email engagement and subsequent action.

BrainStorm provides previously untapped insights into the correlation between learning behavior and software usage, enabling organizations to make data-driven decisions that enhance adoption.

The takeaway

By giving M365 Copilot customers the ability to deliver turnkey training to their end users at scale, BrainStorm was able to influence significant increases in usage and license expansion.
