Thousands Unite to Pack Over 1 Million Meals for Utah Families in BrainStorm-Led Initiative
[Salt Lake City, Utah] — January 17, 2025 — In a powerful display of unity and compassion, more than 10,000 volunteers came together at the Salt Palace Convention Center to pack an astonishing 1,081,920 meals for families in need across Utah. This massive undertaking, spearheaded by BrainStorm, Inc., with the support of Slopes Serves by Silicon Slopes, Hunger Fight, and numerous community partners, marked a new milestone in addressing food insecurity in the state.
The “One Million Meals” initiative brought together diverse groups, including families, businesses, and faith communities, to create a substantive, meaningful impact. Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds worked together to assemble the meals, which will be distributed to food pantries across Utah by the Utah Food Bank, an organization dedicated to fighting hunger since 1904.
"When thousands of people come together with a common purpose, remarkable things happen," said Eric Farr, Principal and Executive Officer at BrainStorm.
Key donors and sponsors made this effort possible, including JustServe, BambooHR, BUILT, Instructure, the Millberg Family Giving Fund, the Andrus Family Foundation, and the Angela and Casey Adams Family, as well as Lucid, Mayer Brown, Momentum Loans, Peterson Partners, Craig & Colleen Earnshaw, Ancestry, Kickstart, Stack Real Estate, WEM, Forever Young Foundation, GFiber, the Joyce and Nathan Ricks Family, Andrew K. Smith and Shauna Smith, and others. The Salt Palace Convention Center generously provided the space to host this record-breaking event.
"No child should ever go without food at school or anywhere else," Silicon Slopes Executive Director Clint Betts said during an X space he hosted announcing the school lunch debt initiative. "I believe we live in the greatest state in the greatest country in the world, and this shouldn't be a problem. Since this is a Utah problem, it's up to Utahns to solve."
Kasey Yardley, who has led the organization of this effort from BrainStorm for three of the last five years, remarked he especially loves to see youth volunteers “get out of their shells” and develop a love of serving. “I think it helps them have a desire to do the really important things in life,” Yardley said.
